March Madness Bracket Advice: Focusing on the Sweet 16

March Madness bracket advice based on the Sweet 16 stage of the 2000 thru 2007 tournaments shows that 1 thru 6 seeds most often earn spots in the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA tourney. Keep in mind that in the 2nd round of the tourney the number 1 seed plays the 8 or 9 seed, the number 2 or 15 seed plays the 7 or 10 seed, the number 3 or 14 seed plays the 6 or 11 seed, and the number 4 or 13 seed plays the 5 or 12 seed.

Number 1 seed: 27 Sweet Sixteens from 2000 to 2006
Number 2 seed: 17 Sweet Sixteens
Number 3 seed: 17 Sweet Sixteens
Number 4 seed: 13 Sweet Sixteens
Number 5 seed: 14 Sweet Sixteens
Number 6 seed: 12 Sweet Sixteens
Number 7 seed: 8 Sweet Sixteens
Number 8 seed: 4 Sweet Sixteens
Number 9 seed: 1 Sweet Sixteen
Number 10 seed: 7 Sweet Sixteens
Number 11 seed: 3 Sweet Sixteens
Number 12 seed: 5 Sweet Sixteens

In the Sweet 16 round we often have number 1 seeds matching up against 4 or 5 seeds. Another common Sweet 16 matchup is a number 2 seed matching up with a 3 or 6 seed.
