NCAA Basketball Championship History: 1939 through Present

NCAA basketball championship history dates back to 1939 when Oregon defeated Ohio State at Patten Gymnasium in Evanston, Illinois. Thirteen schools have won 2 or more titles in NCAA basketball championship history. UCLA has won the men's NCAA tournament 11 times followed by Kentucky with 7 titles, Indiana with 5, North Carolina with 4, Duke with 3, and Michigan State, Florida, Kansas, Oklahoma State, San Francisco, Cincinnati, Connecticut, Louisville, and North Carolina State with 2 NCAA basketball national championships each. The 2009 NCAA men's national championship will be played at Ford Field in Detroit on April 6. Selection Sunday is March 15 with the opening round game on Tuesday, March 17 followed by first round action on March 19 and 20.
